Infertility is defined as the inability of a couple who are not able to conceive naturally after one year of trying. Infertility affects about one in every six couples in the world. As per researchers, about one in every three such cases is due to fertility problems in the male partner alone. In addition, a man’s reproductive health not only decides whether a woman can get pregnant, but it also determines if the pregnancy will be healthy or not.

    What determines sperm health?

Sperm health depends on various factors, including quantity, movement and structure:

Quantity: Fertility is most likely if the semen discharged in a single ejaculation (ejaculate) contains at least 15 million sperm per milliliter. Too little sperm in an ejaculation might make it more difficult to get pregnant because there are fewer candidates available to fertilize the egg.

Movement: To reach and fertilize an egg, sperm must move — wriggling and swimming through a female cervix, uterus and fallopian tubes. This is known as motility. Pregnancy is possible with less than 40% of the sperm in ejaculate moving, but 40% is considered the threshold. The more the better.

Structure (morphology: Typical sperm have oval heads and long tails, which work together to propel them. This is not as important a factor as sperm quantity or movement.

Here are some Simple and Natural Boosters help Men Fertility which includes:

Check Body Weight: Being underweight or overweight can have adverse effects on a man’s fertility. A thorough check-up before trying to conceive will give an overview of one’s overall as well as reproductive health.

Include Folic Acid: It has been noted that men who have lower levels of folic acid in their diet have a higher rate of abnormal chromosomes in their sperm. This can result in miscarriage or even birth defects. It’s important that men who wish to start a family consume folate-rich foods like Garlic, Walnuts, Oysters, Indian Gooseberry, Beef, Salmon, Fenugreek, Tomatoes, beans, green leafy vegetables, whole grains, citrus fruits, and folate-enriched cereals, bread, and pasta at moderate levels.

Reduce Stress: Stress has deleterious effects not only on your psychological but also on your physical health, thereby hampering your fertility. Prolonged stress can cause lower testosterone levels, making a man feel tired and lethargic. To beat stress, practice mild forms of stress management techniques like meditation, yoga, walking, or spending time with loved ones. Also, ensure to get proper sleep, which plays a big role in reducing stress.

Quit Smoking: Smoking is known to cause several health issues including cancer and tuberculosis. However, not many know that it can cause low sperm count too. It is recommended that a man stops smoking at least three months before trying to conceive to be able to achieve a healthy pregnancy.

Cut Caffeine: A study found that sperm count and sperm concentration were slightly reduced in men who had high soda and/or caffeine intake. IVF doctors often advise limiting the consumption of coffee, tea, chocolate, and energy drinks to boost one’s reproductive health.

Avoid Heat: Research by fertility doctors indicates that sperm production has to take place at a specific temperature. If something happens that overheats testicles, it can interfere with sperm production. As such, men should limit the time they spend in hot tubs, saunas, and steam rooms.

Move Computer Away: Experts suggest that putting a laptop on the lap and having a phone in the pocket could lower sperm count as they produce heat. There’s also some evidence that radiation from the phone might affect sperm quality. It is therefore recommended for men to keep laptops and phones away from their bodies as much as possible.

Exercise Daily: Exercising regularly can boost immunity levels and improve fertility. Studies show that men who exercise regularly have better semen quality than inactive men. However, avoid too much exercise, as it may have the opposite effect and potentially lead to fertility problems.

Treat Medical Problems: Underlying medical conditions like untreated diabetes can also lead to infertility. Other such medical conditions that can adversely affect fertility are thyroid disease, Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, Cushing’s syndrome, and Anaemia. Therefore, men should regularly get themselves checked to treat their existing medical conditions and improve their fertility.
